Tips for Surviving Long Travel Days

Even if you enjoy every aspect of traveling there is no denying that spending long hours on any type of transportation can be quite exhausting. Be it a plane, bus, train or boat it simply takes a toll on both your body and mind, and that means that you will spend the first few hours or even a whole day on the new location trying to rest and center yourself. Now, if you are an experienced traveler you know that there are certain tips and tricks to come off of a long journey feeling rested, and ready to hit the ground running. This article will cover some of these great ideas and hopefully, by applying them, you will be able to have a far better traveling experience.

If you can, time your departure

This is not always something you have control over, but if you can try to start your journey off a bit later. Going to the airport or catching a bus or train at 5 am means that you have to start your day a lot earlier than you are used to, thus ensuring you are bound to be tired, to begin with. If possible, time it so that you get a good night’s rest and then get going. This will reflect on the price of your trip, the early ones are usually cheaper, but it will definitely be worth it when it comes to the level of restfulness you will be starting your trip with.

Make sure you dress accordingly

Forget about travelling in style, it is all about comfort. You can always change when you get to your destination. Just do as celebrities do, ensure that you look good while being comfortable. So sweatpants and hoodies, and comfortable shoe game. If it’s cold opt for sneakers, and if the weather permits it, there is no better choice than Arizona Birkenstock collection. Your feet will be comfortable the entire trip and you won’t have to spend a day elevating them, just to get the swelling down after spending more than ten hours traveling. You need to put comfort first, otherwise, you won’t be able to relax during your trip, which will lead to you feeling even more tired and exhausted when you reach your destination.

Hydrate

Yes, yes you have heard it before, but it is important. A lot of people refrain from taking in a lot of liquids due to the fact that they do not like using public restrooms. Well, what is more important, your health and rest or soldering through a not-so-clean toilet or two. Keeping hydrated helps your body fight the stress of traveling, and maintains your skin looking good. You will look and feel a lot more rested if you keep to your regular fluid intake, rather than adjusting it to the travel conditions.

Make sure you have something to do

If you can’t sleep through most of your trip, making sure you are entertained can really help pass the time. On planes, there is usually a decent collection of movies to watch or music to listen to. You can also go oldskool and read a book on your Kindle. Traveling by land is less advantageous in this sense, but you can still read a book, listen to your own playlists or do some fun games. Especially if you are traveling with someone, bringing cards or playing charades on your phone is always a good option. And simply talking to the person next to you can be a great time-passer, you just need to be outgoing and ready for new experiences.

Bring the right kind of snacks

Knowing exactly what to eat during a long trip can benefit your endgame extremely. There is the right kind of food that will help you stay fresh throughout your journey. Food on the plane isn’t always the best choice, and you should go for a light option, like a salad of fish that way you won’t feel bloated afterward. And don’t feel obliged to eat everything they bring, you can always say no. As for land transport, it is mostly up to your own preferences. Still, the same principle goes, stick to light food choices like fruit and granola bars. Sandwiches might weigh heavy on your stomach and you should definitely consider staying away from them. Don’t forget to bring a mixture of nuts, they are high in energy and good for your body as well.

You are now ready to set off without fear that you will feel exhausted at the end of your trip. And more importantly, you won’t look it. There is nothing better than hitting the ground running and not wasting a single second on the newly discovered location. Have a great trip!
