Taking Fire TV With You While Travelling

Introduction

Whether you are traveling alone for business or going on vacation with your family, chances are that you will at some point want to relax and watch tv. The problem is that conventional hotel room television isn’t always your first choice, and you may find yourself thinking that it’ll be better to read something or just go to sleep.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a game changer when it comes to tv entertainment on the go. All you need is the Fire TV Stick, a TV, a power outlet, and Wi-Fi that doesn’t require web login. Simply plug in the Fire TV Stick into the outlet, plug the HDMI port into the tv, select the correct input, for example, HDMI 1, and follow the on-screen instructions. Voila.

Wi-Fi

The biggest issue when it comes to using your Firestick is the availability of Wi-Fi. The Firestick is not enabled for Wi-Fi that requires a web login, which can be a hassle in some hotels. This problem may only be temporary, however, and one can expect that Amazon will do something about this in the near future. In the meanwhile, prepare to set up your own Wi-Fi hotspot.

Take an Extension Cord

It’s important to do some planning. Since the power outlet may be far away from the tv – and you can’t exactly move a wall-mounted tv around, you should take your own power cord extension with you. The power cord you get with your Firestick is about 3 feet long, and the Firestick plugs in directly at the tv. This means that if the outlet is, say, 6 feet away from a fixed tv, you won’t be able to use your Firestick.

Benefits

Apart from the fact that you have to take a cord extension with you, traveling with the Amazon Firestick is almost zero effort. Not only does it weigh nothing, it requires minimal space in your luggage as well. Setting up the Firestick with a hotel tv and connecting it to Wi-Fi takes minutes. The Firestick is Android-based and it also has a built-in web viewer that makes logging onto Wi-Fi a breeze.

The cost is relatively small when you compare it to renting a movie. This is as long as you are not paying additional data charges when your hotel room doesn’t have Wi-Fi. If you know that you’ll be using a Firestick, you can make sure this isn’t a problem before booking.

Firestick is great when traveling. You get access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and a whole lot more. This means that you have access to 200,000 tv shows, movies, and documentaries. This includes content for children, which can be a lifesaver if you are traveling with your kids. You also get access to music and gaming, which can help if you want to pass the time.

The Bluetooth remote is another feature that makes the Fire TV Stick great for traveling. It makes interacting with the stick much easier and you can select content by talking to the remote, which is awesome.

Jailbreaking

You can also legally jailbreak your Firestick to unlock access to other streaming services like Kodi. Configuring your Firestick to access other content is relatively easy and will provide you with the best setup.

Conclusion

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is an excellent traveling companion. It is easy to configure with most hotel room setups and the costs consist of your subscription fee, which is relatively low. Packing and hauling the Firestick around is completely effortless and definitely worth the trouble, even if your tv watching time is minimal.
