My 4 Top Beer Bars in Singapore
The island-city-country of Singapore presents travellers with a different kind of destination to explore, especially if you’re rolling in purely for tourism purposes as opposed to what most people go to this Southeast Asian air-travel hub for, which is of course business in some or other way. Singapore is seen more as a place where you go to make money, whatever area of business you’re in or whatever career path you’ve chosen to follow, so for travellers it’s often overlooked as not having all that much to offer.
Many travellers perhaps justifiably refer to Singapore as a destination which can be explored in its entirety, within a very short space of time. In fact, some report exploring the entire island within a single day!
However, if you have a specific flavour to the manner through which you travel, like how I’m a royal beer-head, all of a sudden this very clean and efficient island-city-nation of Singapore reveals itself to be a real treasure-trove. It’s no secret that my travel-niche is primarily centred on my love for beer, so it would only make sense that I’d have had plenty of reasons to spend a whole lot more than a single day on the island – this in just seeking to find a top-five of beer bars, mind you. I could only ultimately come up with a list of my top four though, despite the fact that for the size of the island nation there are plenty of options. I could very well have come up with a top 20 list of a specialist beer only, such as craft beer!
Here goes…
1. The Good Beer Company
Well, if you’re going to name yourself “The Good Beer Company” then you’re putting it out there that you have some good beer on offer, aren’t you? Fortunately I guess I can attest to this indeed being a GOOD beer company, located in Kent Ridge, where there are many other beer bars serving as popular watering holes for the busy professionals who call Singapore home. Let me tell you the secret to good beer – it’s in the way it’s stored and handled, maintaining its integrity, so at The Good Beer Company the wide range of beers, both commercial and craft makes it my number one!
2. Little Island Brewing Co.
Before arriving I knew about this place as potentially topping my list of the best beer bars in Singapore. It comes in second though, mostly because of just how much it reminds of home (they have a Sunday Roast dinner to go with the fine craft beer). I actually booked my transfer here straight from the airport as an extension of the drive to my airport, where I just wanted to drop my bags to proceed and get the party started! There’s an on-site microbrewery as well and it’s all about craft beer and other drinks here.
3. The Alchemist Lab
I like the play on the word “alchemy” at this City Hall beer bar which specialises only in beer and wine. I particularly love it because it’s not a club or anything of the sort, so no dancing or anything like that. It’s all about sitting and having a good few good ones and they do indeed take reservations.
4. Heart of Darkness
I can see why many people I’ve spoken to rank this as their very best beer bar in Singapore, but for a universal beer lover such as myself, I reckon the focus on craft beer takes a lot away from what it could be. A very cosy place, nevertheless, with craft beer that is indeed otherworldly, I must say!
