I’ll probably be way too busy to do a proper follow-up on this, so if you want to know the outcome you’ll have to hit me up and I’ll be glad to share, but either way, I came across the rather intriguing free vacation challenge while endeavouring to be a bit more responsible with the manner in which I travel for once and actually plan a trip more thoroughly instead of just jumping in like I usually do. So amidst all the planning I came across the free vacation challenge and realised that this is indeed something I could do with my eyes closed.
What is the free vacation challenge?
Basically the free vacation challenge is an unofficial competition (which means you don’t win any prizes and shouldn’t even expect to get any recognition for your achievements) where a traveller tries to use all means available to them to enjoy going on a free vacation, or a vacation that’s as close to being free as is possible. So basically as someone who has accepted this challenge I will endeavour to try and go on my next trip spending as little money as possible, but ideally spending no money at all, if that’s even possible.
My free vacation challenge plan
Obviously I will carry some money with me — in fact I will carry the same amount of money as I usually do on any trip, just so that I have something to fall back on in case things don’t quite go according to plan, but having been on quite a few trips I have a bit of an advantage with regards to all the tools I can use to drive the costs of my next trip right down to almost nothing at all. Hopefully I’ll be able to iron out the small creases and make it a completely free trip, but if there was indeed a prize for what is otherwise this unofficial challenge, I reckon I’d be right in line to win it!
Airfare
Like I said, I’ve been some places around the world right and fortunately along with the very first flight I took, I registered for the airlines’ loyalty programmes, more commonly known as frequent flyer programmes so I have a lot of air miles to burn! This challenge comes just in time too because many of the accumulated air miles I have are due to expire soon, so I’ll redeem some of them for a return plan ticket.
Accommodation & Food
The residual air miles I have are enough to cover a three nights’ stay at a luxury resort, so that’s covered as well in terms of food and accommodation.
Local transport
This is where I’ll have to figure something out, but I plan to exchange something like a free professional website voucher with a local who can drive me around.
Entertainment
I’ll be gaming it up using the 888 promotion code I qualified for to cover the entertainment and since it is indeed a luxury resort I’ll be staying in, their all-inclusive entertainment which comes with the room together with enjoying online casino games will do as far as my entertainment goes.
Challenge accepted!
