Constructive Timewasters for Travellers Passing Time

There’s a paradox for you if ever there was one – putting the word “constructive” next to “timewaster.” Well in the context of a traveller who has some time to kill however, this is every bit as real as your passion for travel. When you cannot help but shake that feeling that surely there is something much better you could be doing with your time then pretty much anything you’ll be doing instead of just sitting around waiting for the next flight or something, will indeed make for a more constructive use of your time.

My insistence on using the term “timewasters” though stems from the fact that outside of the context of travel, what I’m going to suggest as constructive time-passing activities would otherwise be considered either pure entertainment or pure time-wasting.

So, what do you do when you have some time to kill between all the major transitional elements of your typical trip, such as perhaps finding yourself with a couple to a few hours to kill while waiting to board your next flight or perhaps if you might be on a bus or other mode of public transport and are effectively at the mercy of the system itself?

Be smart about the use of your Smartphone

Well I guess I don’t have to explicitly point it out because it’s somewhat of a natural course of action anybody would take, anywhere really, that being whipping out your Smartphone and getting lost in however many pixels your screen gives you. Although, I would suggest you refrain from what you usually get up to on your Smartphone, unless you’re someone like a professional gambler, in which case the rather constructive use of your waiting time is something from which we can all learn as travellers.

Personally, I particularly enjoy playing LeoVegas online games any chance I can get and not just while I’m waiting for the next item on my travel itinerary, but it is indeed a great way to pass the time. I got introduced to this particular online gaming platform by a travel buddy who is a professional gambler, and as much as I do indeed play for real money myself, for me it’s more about the fun aspect of the games. I seem to be quite lucky in that I amass some winnings here and there and on one occasion I used the signup bonus I got along with some 100+ free spins to my advantage, which resulted in me being able to extend my stay in one of my favourite locations in the entire world by a full week! That was a lot of fun for me, and for those out there who like to try some games out for themselves, you can always look at websites like https://www.gamespace.com/all-articles/news/an-awesome-list-of-the-games-you-can-play-right-now-with-your-phone/ to see what’s available.

The mobile experience is just as captivating as the experience you’d have on a full-sized computer screen, so that’s why I always ensure to have a full charge on my Smartphone or tablet itself, along with at least two fully-charged power banks for some back-up power, in case I learn that a flight is delayed or something like that.

Between that and perhaps brushing up on a foreign language you might be learning through apps like DuoLingo and the likes, your Smartphone can indeed afford you the platform to make much more constructive use of your waiting time as a traveller.
